DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
System Installation & Commissioning
- Install a wide range of refrigeration and air conditioning systems including cold rooms, freezers, chillers, split units, VRF/VRV systems, and HVAC units according to manufacturer specifications and client needs.
- Ensure proper system alignment, sealing, piping, insulation, and electrical connections during installations.
- Conduct system start-up, testing, and commissioning to verify operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards.
Routine Maintenance & Servicing
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on refrigeration and HVAC equipment to avoid breakdowns and prolong equipment lifespan.
- Inspect system components (compressors, evaporators, condensers, motors, fans, etc.) and replace worn-out parts as necessary.
- Clean and calibrate thermostats, air filters, coils, blowers, and control panels to maintain optimal performance.
Troubleshooting & Repairs
- Accurately diagnose refrigeration and HVAC system malfunctions using manual checks and diagnostic tools.
- Repair or replace defective components including refrigerant lines, compressors, electrical wiring, circuit boards, and thermostats.
- Handle emergency breakdowns promptly, minimizing equipment downtime and loss of perishables.
Refrigerant Handling & Compliance
- Safely handle, charge, recover, and dispose of refrigerants in line with local environmental and safety regulations.
- Maintain records of refrigerant usage and ensure all systems are leak-free and environmentally compliant.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain clear and accurate service logs, installation checklists, maintenance schedules, and repair documentation.
- Provide detailed job completion reports, including parts used, time spent, and status of work done.
- Submit regular reports to the supervisor or operations manager for record-keeping and performance monitoring.
Customer Interaction & Support
- Communicate clearly and professionally with clients regarding system conditions, necessary repairs, and cost estimates.
- Educate customers on proper system usage, basic maintenance, and energy efficiency tips.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by providing reliable and timely service.
Safety & Best Practices
- Adhere to all workplace safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures on job sites.
- Keep tools and workspaces clean, organized, and in good working condition.
Team Collaboration & Continuous Learning
- Work closely with other technicians and team members to complete complex installations or service calls.
- Participate in internal training programs and stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Provide mentorship or guidance to junior technicians when necessary.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in refrigeration system installation, maintenance, and repair
- Must possess a valid and recognized HVAC or Refrigeration Technician Certification
- Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, and HVAC standards
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults efficiently
- Familiarity with tools and diagnostic equipment used in refrigeration servicing
- Must be physically fit and able to handle demanding technical tasks
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision
- Residing along or near Thika Road will be an added advantage
