DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and cook daily meals (breakfast, lunch, snacks) according to the school menu and student dietary needs.
  • Ensure meals are nutritionally balanced, age-appropriate, and appealing to children.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in all food preparation and serving areas.
  • Supervise and train kitchen assistants, ensuring effective workflow and staff development.
  • Manage kitchen inventory, track usage, and maintain stock levels.
  • Order ingredients and supplies in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Monitor food waste and implement measures to minimize losses.
  • Develop and update weekly and monthly menus in consultation with school management and in alignment with nutritional standards.
  • Accommodate students with food allergies or special dietary requirements.
  • Coordinate meal schedules to ensure timely service during school breaks and lunch hours.
  • Maintain detailed records of daily meal counts, ingredient usage, and hygiene inspections.
  • Support food preparation for school events, meetings, and extracurricular activities.
  • Liaise with suppliers and ensure the quality and freshness of food items received.
  • Enforce all health and safety regulations as per Ministry of Health and county public health standards.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions and ensure proper maintenance of kitchen appliances.
  • Participate in regular school meetings as required and provide feedback on kitchen operations.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a chef or cook in a busy kitchen (experience in a school or institutional setting is an added advantage)
  • Proven ability to prepare a wide range of local and international cuisines
  • Knowledge of child nutrition and food allergies is highly desirable
  • Certificate or diploma in Culinary Arts, Food Production, or related field
  • Up-to-date knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards (e.g., Public Health Certification)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks
