DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Food Preparation & Cooking

  • Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping, marinating, and portioning foods according to recipe requirements.
  • Cook dishes using various methods such as grilling, baking, frying, steaming, and sautéing as guided by the Head Chef.
  • Ensure food is cooked to the correct temperature, texture, and flavor standards.
  • Assist in preparing daily specials and meal variations for guests or staff as required.

Kitchen Operations Support

  • Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies (mise en place) at the beginning of shifts.
  • Ensure all cooking and preparation areas are kept clean, organized, and sanitized during and after shifts.
  • Report any faulty equipment or potential kitchen hazards immediately to the supervisor.

 Hygiene, Sanitation & Food Safety

  • Strictly follow hygiene and food safety regulations in line with public health requirements.
  • Wear appropriate kitchen attire and personal protective gear (aprons, gloves, hairnets, etc.) at all times.
  • Clean and sanitize cooking surfaces, utensils, and kitchen tools after each use.
  • Monitor the cleanliness of fridges, freezers, and dry storage, and ensure food items are stored safely and labeled properly.

Inventory & Stock Management

  • Assist with the receiving and inspection of food deliveries to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Store ingredients and perishables using the FIFO (First-In, First-Out) method.
  • Monitor stock levels of frequently used ingredients and communicate shortages to the supervisor or Head Chef.
  • Minimize food wastage through proper portioning and handling of ingredients.

Teamwork & Collaboration

  • Work closely with kitchen staff, waitstaff, and supervisor to ensure timely and coordinated meal service.
  • Be flexible and responsive to the needs of the team — stepping into different roles or stations as needed.

Compliance & Professional Conduct

  • Follow kitchen protocols, company policies, and health and safety guidelines at all times.
  • Maintain professionalism, punctuality, and a positive attitude while on duty.
  • Handle kitchen tools and resources responsibly and with care to prevent damage or misuse.

 

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Proven experience as a cook, kitchen assistant, or similar role in a professional kitchen
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen operations
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality dishes
  • Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the kitchen team
  • Must be punctual, dependable, and flexible with shifts, including weekends and holidays
