DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Landscape and Garden Design:

  • Develop customized garden and landscape designs using computer-aided design

(CAD) software or other landscape design tools (such as SketchUp, AutoCAD, or

Realtime Landscaping Architect).

  • Create 2D and 3D visual representations of landscape projects, including plant

placement, hardscape elements, irrigation systems, and lighting.

  • Ensure designs are both aesthetically pleasing and sustainable, incorporating

climate-appropriate plants, materials, and water conservation techniques.

  • Work closely with clients to understand their vision and preferences, offering

professional advice and recommendations.

Garden and Landscape Installation:

  • Oversee and participate in the installation of landscaping projects, including

planting, irrigation, hardscape construction (paths, patios, decks), and garden bed preparation.

  • Plan and execute the layout of plants, shrubs, trees, and garden features in accordance with the approved design plan.
  • Select and prepare soil, manage fertilization schedules, and address plant health concerns to ensure healthy, thriving landscapes.
  • Work with a variety of landscape materials such as stone, mulch, wood, and decorative elements, ensuring high-quality workmanship.

Garden and Landscape Maintenance:

  • Perform regular maintenance of gardens and landscapes, including pruning, weeding, fertilizing, watering, and pest management.
  • Diagnose and treat plant diseases, soil deficiencies, and pests, using environmentally friendly solutions when possible.
  • Monitor and manage irrigation systems to ensure plants receive adequate water without waste.
  • Keep landscapes looking vibrant and well-manicured year-round through seasonal maintenance and adjustments.

Project Management and Supervision:

  • Lead and supervise junior gardeners and landscaping assistants, ensuring tasks are

completed efficiently and to a high standard.

  • Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and contractors for sourcing plants, materials, and equipment.
  • Prepare cost estimates, work schedules, and project timelines for clients and management.
  • Ensure all projects are completed within the designated budget and timeline.

Client Interaction and Consultation:

  • Conduct site evaluations to assess soil, drainage, and existing plant conditions, recommending the best plants and design features for the environment.
  • Provide clients with plant care instructions, advice on sustainable landscaping practices, and solutions for ongoing landscape improvement.
  • Address client feedback and requests with professionalism, ensuring their satisfaction with the final design and maintenance of their garden or landscape.

 Agriculture Expertise and Knowledge:

  • Apply agricultural principles to enhance the growth, health, and sustainability of plants and gardens.
  • Utilize knowledge of soil science, plant biology, and horticultural techniques to improve landscape designs and gardening practices.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in agricultural technology, eco-friendly

practices, and sustainable gardening trends.

Health and Safety: 

  • Follow and enforce safety protocols while operating landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and gardening tools.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations concerning pesticide and fertilizer use.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • A degree or certification in Agriculture, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in gardening, landscape design, and installation is mandatory.
  • Proficient in landscape design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Realtime
  • Landscaping Architect, or similar programs.
  • Strong knowledge of plant identification, including trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals suitable for the local climate and soil.
  • Experience in irrigation system design and installation is a plus.
  • Must be physically fit and capable of performing tasks such as lifting heavy materials, bending, and working in varying outdoor conditions.
  • A valid driver’s license may be required for transportation to and from work sites.
