DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Curriculum Planning & Delivery
- Design and deliver comprehensive and stimulating lesson plans aligned with the Cambridge International Curriculum (e.g., Key Stage 1–4, IGCSE, AS/A Level).
- Adapt teaching methodologies to suit different learning styles and abilities, ensuring inclusive and differentiated instruction.
- Integrate theoretical, practical, and historical components of music into the learning process, including music literacy, composition, performance, and appreciation.
Practical Music Instruction
- Teach students to play various musical instruments (keyboard, recorder, percussion, etc.) and/or vocal techniques depending on school resources and student interest.
- Foster ensemble performance skills by forming choirs, bands, or instrumental groups where possible.
- Coach students individually and in groups to prepare for school concerts, festivals, talent shows, and exams.
Assessment & Reporting
- Design and administer assessments that accurately measure student progress against Cambridge standards.
- Prepare students for internal and external assessments including IGCSE or A-Level Music.
- Maintain up-to-date records of student achievement and progress, and provide timely feedback to students and parents during parent-teacher conferences and reports.
Music Events & Co-Curricular Leadership
- Plan, organize, and lead school-based music events such as recitals, seasonal concerts, open days, and assemblies.
- Mentor students for participation in external competitions, music festivals, or exhibitions.
- Collaborate with the drama or arts department to support school productions or cross-disciplinary projects.
Classroom Management & Student Engagement
- Create a structured, respectful, and engaging classroom environment that encourages active learning and discipline.
- Use music to promote creativity, confidence, collaboration, and emotional expression in students.
- Encourage student-led music clubs or initiatives to foster peer mentorship and leadership.
Collaboration & Professional Development
- Work closely with colleagues to plan cross-curricular units that integrate music with subjects like English, History, or Art.
- Attend and contribute to faculty meetings, department planning sessions, and in-service training workshops.
- Stay up to date with best practices in music education, technology, and the Cambridge curriculum.
Equipment & Resource Management
- Maintain and care for music instruments and equipment; report maintenance needs promptly.
- Recommend new resources, instruments, or technologies that enhance music instruction.
- Ensure safe and responsible use of school resources by all students.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Degree in Music Education or a related field
- Minimum 2–3 years of teaching experience, specifically within the Cambridge curriculum
- Strong knowledge of music theory, instrumental and vocal techniques, and music technology
- Ability to teach a variety of instruments is an added advantage
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills
- A deep passion for music and teaching
