DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Quality Inspection & Monitoring
- Conduct in-line and end-of-line quality inspections during production to ensure adherence to product specifications and regulatory standards.
- Monitor raw material quality upon receipt and verify compliance with supplier specifications.
- Perform daily inspections of the production area to verify cleanliness, hygiene, and proper equipment calibration.
Product Testing & Analysis
- Oversee laboratory tests for microbiological, physical, and chemical parameters of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished goods.
- Analyze test results and provide clear, data-driven feedback to production and management teams.
- Ensure timely release or rejection of batches based on quality standards.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards, HACCP principles, and all relevant food safety and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, process deviations, and corrective actions.
- Lead documentation updates in line with changes in standards or internal protocols.
Internal Audits & External Audit Support
- Prepare and coordinate internal quality audits to identify gaps and ensure continuous compliance.
- Assist in preparing for third-party certifications (ISO, HACCP, KEBS, etc.) and support audit processes.
- Coordinate implementation and follow-up of corrective and preventive actions from audit findings.
Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis
- Investigate product complaints or quality failures, conduct root cause analyses (RCA), and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (production, maintenance, procurement) to solve recurring quality issues and reduce product non-conformance.
Team Supervision & Training
- Supervise and mentor a small team of Quality Control Assistants or Technicians, ensuring they follow SOPs and maintain high quality standards.
- Conduct regular training sessions for production staff on quality, hygiene, and food safety procedures.
- Evaluate staff performance and recommend areas for improvement or further training.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process optimization to enhance product consistency, reduce waste, and improve efficiency.
- Use data from quality checks and production performance to make evidence-based recommendations to management.
- Participate in continuous improvement programs such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen initiatives.
Health, Safety & Hygiene Compliance
- Ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Hygiene Practices (GHP) across the plant.
- Monitor pest control, sanitation, and employee hygiene practices.
- Raise awareness among staff about health and safety policies and food handling best practices.
Reporting & Communication
- Compile and submit detailed quality reports, trends, and quality performance KPIs to management on a weekly and monthly basis.
- Serve as the communication link between the quality department and production, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure alignment on quality expectations.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or any related field
- Minimum of 5 years’ proven experience in a Quality Control role, preferably within the FMCG sector
- In-depth knowledge of ISO 22000, ISO 9001, and HACCP implementation and maintenance
- Strong understanding of food safety regulations, manufacturing processes, and quality control systems
- Proven experience in handling audits and regulatory inspections
