DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Farm Operations
- Carry out daily farm activities including land preparation, planting, irrigation, weeding, fertilization, and harvesting.
- Ensure proper crop care to maintain high productivity and crop quality.
- Implement crop production plans as guided by the Farm Manager.
- Guide and supervise casual workers on daily farm tasks.
Crop Production & Management
- Support the production of high-value crops such as tomatoes, onions, watermelon, and fruit crops.
- Implement proper crop management practices including pest and disease control.
- Monitor crop health and report any issues to the Farm Manager.
- Assist in fruit tree propagation, planting, and management.
Post-Harvest Management
- Handle post-harvest activities including sorting, grading, packaging, and storage of produce.
- Ensure proper handling to maintain product quality and reduce losses.
- Coordinate produce preparation for delivery to local and Nairobi markets.
Planning & Coordination
- Liaise with the Farm Manager in planning farm activities.
- Prepare and follow weekly work schedules for farm operations.
- Participate in bi-weekly review meetings with the Farm Manager.
Record Keeping & Administration
- Maintain accurate farm records including production activities, sales, and deliveries.
- Record transactions related to purchases, orders, invoices, and petty cash.
- Track farm inputs and assist with budgeting and planning activities.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Minimum 2+ years of farm work experience in ASAL (Arid and Semi-Arid Land) areas.
- At least 1–2 years of experience in production of high-value crops.
- Experience in fruit tree propagation, planting, and management.
- Experience implementing crop production plans.
- Experience guiding casual labourers on daily farm operations.
- Familiarity with pest and fungal disease management in crops.
