JOB SUMMARY

The Inventory Accountant will be responsible for managing and reconciling shop inventory with accounting records to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. The role combines accounting functions with inventory management, requiring keen attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and proficiency in QuickBooks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Inventory Management

  • Monitor and record daily stock movements (receipts, transfers, sales, and returns).
  • Conduct regular stock counts and reconcile physical inventory with system records.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
  • Ensure proper documentation of inventory transactions.

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Record and reconcile inventory-related transactions in QuickBooks.
  • Prepare monthly inventory valuation and cost of goods sold (COGS) reports.
  • Support preparation of financial statements by providing accurate inventory data.
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management related to inventory.

Compliance & Controls

  • Implement internal controls to safeguard inventory and prevent losses.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
  • Support audits by providing inventory and accounting records.

Operational Support

  • Work closely with procurement and store operations to align inventory records.
  • Provide management with timely reports on stock levels, shrinkage, and profitability.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • CPA II or higher qualification required
  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a retail or supermarket environment
  • Hands-on experience in inventory accounting and reconciliation
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and inventory management
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and MS Office (Excel, Word)
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
