CHIEF ENGINEER-HOTEL

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Engineering & Maintenance

• Oversee the day-to-day engineering and maintenance operations of the hotel.
• Ensure all electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, and building systems operate efficiently and reliably.
• Develop and implement comprehensive preventive maintenance schedules.
• Coordinate corrective and emergency maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and disruption to hotel operations.
• Conduct regular inspections of plant rooms, equipment, guest areas, back-of-house areas, and other building facilities.
• Diagnose technical faults and provide practical solutions to recurring engineering problems.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment condition, repairs, and service history.

Team Leadership & Supervision

• Lead, supervise, and coordinate the engineering and maintenance team.
• Allocate duties and ensure maintenance tasks are completed within agreed timelines.
• Train and mentor technical staff to improve skills, productivity, and adherence to best practices.
• Monitor team performance and enforce professional, safety, and operational standards.

Contractor & Vendor Management

• Supervise external contractors, service providers, and technical consultants.
• Ensure contractors deliver work according to agreed specifications, timelines, quality standards, and safety requirements.
• Evaluate maintenance quotations and support the procurement of engineering materials, equipment, and services.
• Maintain effective relationships with suppliers and service providers.

Budget & Cost Management

• Prepare and manage the engineering and maintenance budget.
• Monitor expenditure and identify opportunities to reduce operating and maintenance costs without compromising quality or safety.
• Control the use of engineering materials, spare parts, tools, utilities, and other resources.
• Provide regular reports on maintenance expenditure, equipment performance, and outstanding works.

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all engineering activities comply with applicable health, safety, environmental, and statutory requirements.
• Ensure electrical, fire, HVAC, plumbing, lifts, generators, and other critical systems are appropriately maintained and inspected.
• Maintain required technical licences, certificates, inspection records, and compliance documentation.
• Promote safe working practices across the engineering department.
• Identify and mitigate engineering and facility-related risks.

Energy & Facilities Management

• Monitor electricity, water, fuel, and other utility consumption.
• Implement initiatives aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing utility costs.
• Ensure generators, pumps, boilers, air-conditioning systems, water systems, and other critical equipment are properly maintained.
• Support hotel management in planning renovations, upgrades, and major engineering projects.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

• Diploma/Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5–8 years of relevant experience in hotel engineering, facilities management, building maintenance, or a similar environment.
• Proven experience managing multidisciplinary engineering and maintenance operations.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, and general building systems.
• Experience in preventive and corrective maintenance planning.
• Experience supervising technical teams and external contractors.
• Experience managing maintenance budgets, suppliers, and service contracts.
• Relevant technical licences, certifications, or professional memberships will be an added advantage.
• Hotel or hospitality industry experience is strongly preferred.
