WASTE TRUCK ASSISTANT/JANITOR

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Waste Collection Operations

• Assist the waste collection team with daily collection, loading, and unloading of waste.
• Support the Waste Truck Driver during assigned collection routes.
• Assist with the safe movement and handling of waste at designated collection points.
• Ensure waste is handled and transported safely and responsibly.
• Report missed collections, access challenges, or operational issues to the supervisor.

Cleaning & Janitorial Services

• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene around waste collection points and assigned areas.
• Perform general cleaning, janitorial, and sanitation duties as required.
• Sweep, clean, disinfect, and maintain designated work areas.
• Clean and maintain waste collection equipment and work areas.
• Ensure collection areas are left clean after waste has been removed.

 Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

• Properly use and care for all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Follow all health, safety, hygiene, and environmental procedures.
• Report hazards, spillages, damaged equipment, or unsafe conditions to the supervisor immediately.
• Handle waste and cleaning materials in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Maintain good personal hygiene and professional conduct at all times.

 Teamwork & Operational Support

• Work effectively with drivers, supervisors, cleaners, and other team members.
• Follow instructions from the Waste Truck Driver and supervisors.
• Support the team in completing daily collection schedules efficiently.
• Assist with other duties related to waste management, cleaning, and sanitation as assigned.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

• Certificate or Diploma in Cleaning, Waste Management, Environmental Management, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years’ experiencein waste collection, janitorial services, cleaning, sanitations, facilities management or a similar role.
• Practical experience handling waste and cleaning equipment
• Knowledge of basic health, safety, hygiene, and sanitation practices.
• Experience working in a commercial, residential, institutional, or industrial environment is an added advantage.
