DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Patient Care & Treatment
- Assess patients, take comprehensive medical histories, perform physical examinations, and develop appropriate treatment plans.
- Provide clinical care and treatment for patients in accordance with established medical guidelines and facility protocols.
- Provide appropriate health education, counselling, follow-up care, and referrals where necessary.
Diagnosis & Medical Testing
- Diagnose common medical conditions based on patient history, clinical examination, and available diagnostic results.
- Request, conduct, or interpret appropriate laboratory and other diagnostic tests within the scope of practice.
- Monitor patients’ progress and review or adjust treatment plans based on clinical findings and response to treatment.
Clinical Procedures & Emergency Care
- Perform routine clinical and medical procedures within the scope of professional training and registration.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies, provide initial stabilization, and arrange appropriate referral where required.
- Maintain infection prevention and control standards and ensure safe handling of medical equipment and supplies.
Records & Clinical Administration
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential patient medical records and clinical documentation.
- Record consultations, diagnoses, treatments, procedures, referrals, and follow-up information accurately and promptly.
- Work collaboratively with nurses, laboratory staff, pharmacy teams, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized training institution.
- Must be registered with the Clinical Officers Council (COC) and hold a valid practising licence.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience working as a Clinical Officer in a busy clinic, hospital, or healthcare facility.
- Demonstrated experience in patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, routine procedures, and emergency care.
- Good knowledge of clinical protocols, infection prevention, patient safety, and medical ethics.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a busy clinical environment.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and compassion.
