DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Installation & Deployment
- Install and commission fiber optic internet connections for residential, commercial, and enterprise customers.
- Conduct site surveys and assess installation requirements before deployment.
- Perform fiber optic cable laying, routing, termination, and testing.
- Install and configure customer premises equipment (CPE), routers, switches, access points, and related networking devices.
- Carry out Cat6 cable installation, termination, testing, and labeling according to industry standards.
- Ensure proper cable management and adherence to installation best practices.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve fiber optic network faults, connectivity issues, and service interruptions.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on network infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot customer internet service complaints and restore services within agreed timelines.
- Conduct fiber testing using OTDRs, power meters, and other diagnostic tools.
- Repair damaged fiber links and perform fusion splicing where necessary.
- Escalate complex technical issues to senior engineers when required.
Network Operations Support
- Assist in network expansion, upgrades, and infrastructure improvement projects.
- Monitor network performance and identify potential faults before service disruptions occur.
- Support backbone, distribution, and last-mile network maintenance activities.
- Ensure all installations and repairs comply with company standards and industry regulations.
Customer Service
- Provide professional and courteous support during customer visits.
- Educate customers on basic equipment usage and troubleshooting procedures.
- Maintain positive customer relationships and represent the company professionally.
- Address customer concerns promptly and escalate unresolved issues appropriately.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of installations, maintenance activities, repairs, and service calls.
- Complete daily field reports and submit job completion documentation.
- Update ticketing and maintenance systems with accurate service information.
- Document network changes and installation details for future reference.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to workplace health and safety procedures at all times.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when carrying out field work.
- Ensure safe handling of fiber optic equipment, tools, and materials.
- Comply with company policies, technical standards, and industry best practices.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Diploma or Certificate in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Networking, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in ISP, telecommunications, or fiber optic network environments.
- Proven experience in fiber optic installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience working with residential and commercial internet installations.
- Proficiency in fiber optic cable installation and maintenance.
- Experience with fiber splicing and fiber termination techniques.
- Knowledge of OTDR testing, power meter testing, and fault localization.
- Strong understanding of Cat6 cable installation, termination, and testing.
