DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Transactions & Bookkeeping
- Record and maintain accurate daily financial transactions in the accounting system.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure all accounting entries are complete and accurate.
- Prepare journal entries and ensure proper documentation for all financial transactions.
- Verify the accuracy of financial records and resolve discrepancies promptly.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process supplier invoices, payments, and staff reimbursements in a timely manner.
- Generate customer invoices and monitor accounts receivable to ensure timely collections.
- Reconcile supplier and customer statements and resolve outstanding balances.
- Maintain proper filing and documentation for all payment vouchers and invoices.
Cash & Bank Management
- Prepare daily cash reconciliations and maintain petty cash records.
- Conduct regular bank reconciliations and investigate any variances.
- Monitor cash flow and report any shortages or irregularities.
- Ensure proper custody and accountability of cash and financial documents.
Financial Reporting
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Compile financial data required for management reporting.
- Prepare schedules and supporting documents for internal and external audits.
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, financial procedures, and statutory requirements.
- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with accepted accounting principles.
- Support tax compliance by preparing documentation required for VAT, PAYE, and other statutory obligations.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining effective internal financial controls.
Administrative Support
- Maintain organized accounting records, files, and financial documentation.
- Liaise with banks, suppliers, auditors, and regulatory authorities where necessary.
- Support budget preparation and expenditure monitoring.
- Perform any other accounting and finance duties assigned by management.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- CPA Part II qualification (or equivalent) is required.
- Minimum of 1 year of accounting experience in a busy commercial environment.
- Experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, ERP systems, or similar accounting applications is an added advantage.
- Good understanding of bookkeeping principles, financial reporting, and reconciliations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
