DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Cashier Duties (Front Office)

  • Process customer payments accurately using cash, mobile money, and other approved payment methods.
  • Operate the POS system efficiently and ensure all transactions are recorded correctly.
  • Issue receipts and ensure proper documentation of all sales.
  • Handle cash securely and ensure proper shift opening and closing balances.
  • Provide excellent customer service and assist customers during checkout.

Back Office Operations

  • Assist in stock receiving, counting, and recording deliveries from suppliers.
  • Support daily stock reconciliation and report variances.
  • Update stock records and assist in maintaining inventory accuracy.
  • Assist in preparing reports on sales, stock levels, and cash summaries.
  • Ensure proper filing and organization of retail documentation.

Cash Handling & Reconciliation

  • Conduct daily cash reconciliations and balance tills at the end of each shift.
  • Report and resolve any cash discrepancies immediately.
  • Safeguard company funds and ensure adherence to cash handling procedures.

Store Support Duties

  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of the store.
  • Support merchandising and product arrangement when required.
  • Help monitor fast-moving and slow-moving stock items.
  • Report damaged or expired stock to management.

Customer Service

  • Assist customers in a polite and professional manner.
  • Respond to basic inquiries regarding products and pricing.
  • Maintain a friendly and helpful attitude at all times.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • KCSE/Diploma in Business, Accounting, Sales, or a related field is an added advantage.
  • Previous experience working as a cashier or retail attendant in a minimart or supermarket is required.
  • Basic knowledge of POS systems and retail operations.
  • Understanding of stock handling and inventory control processes.
  • Basic cash reconciliation and numerical skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong honesty and integrity in cash handling.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail environment.
