CONSULTANT ACCOUNTANT

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Oversight & Reporting

  • Oversee daily accounting operations including general ledger, payables, receivables, payroll, and reconciliations
  • Review and approve journal entries and financial transactions
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reports
  • Present financial reports and insights to management

Compliance & Tax Management

  • Ensure full compliance with Kenyan tax laws and statutory regulations
  • Oversee preparation and timely filing of VAT, PAYE, SHIF, NSSF, and corporate tax returns
  • Liaise with KRA and other regulatory bodies when necessary
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and financial regulations and advise management accordingly
  • Ensure proper documentation and maintenance of statutory records

Budgeting & Financial Planning

  • Lead budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Analyze financial performance against budgets and provide variance reports
  • Provide strategic financial advice to support cost control and profitability
  • Develop cash flow projections and monitor liquidity

 Internal Controls & Risk Management

  • Establish and strengthen internal control systems
  • Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Ensure proper segregation of duties and adherence to financial policies
  • Oversee audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors

Advisory & Strategic Support

  • Provide financial insights to support management decision-making
  • Advise on cost optimization and operational efficiency
  • Support investment, expansion, or restructuring decisions with financial analysis
  • Develop and document financial policies and procedures

 Systems & Process Improvement

  • Review accounting systems and recommend improvements
  • Ensure proper use of accounting software and financial tools
  • Train or guide internal accounting staff where necessary
  • Improve reporting templates and financial dashboards

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA (K), ACCA, or equivalent professional certification (Required)
  • Minimum of 5 years progressive accounting experience, preferably in a busy or high-volume organization
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, tax laws, and financial regulations
  • High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
