FASHION DESIGNER ASSISTANT

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Design Support

• Assist in developing fashion concepts, mood boards, and seasonal collections.
• Prepare design sketches, technical drawings, and garment specifications.
• Support the lead designer in creating customized designs based on client requirements.
• Keep up to date with current fashion trends, fabrics, colours, and styling techniques.

Fabric & Material Selection

• Assist in sourcing suitable fabrics, trims, accessories, and other production materials.
• Evaluate fabric quality, colour consistency, texture, and suitability for different garment designs.
• Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely availability of production materials.

Production Coordination

• Work closely with tailors and production staff to ensure garments are produced according to design specifications.
• Interpret design sketches and communicate technical requirements clearly to the production team.
• Monitor production progress and help resolve design or construction challenges.

 Quality Control

• Inspect garments at various stages of production to ensure quality standards are maintained.
• Verify garment measurements, stitching quality, finishing, and overall workmanship before delivery.
• Ensure completed garments accurately match approved designs and customer specifications.
• Identify defects and coordinate necessary alterations or corrections.

Customer & Administrative Support

• Assist during client consultations, fittings, and alteration appointments where required.
• Record customer measurements and maintain accurate design and production records.
• Organize design files, fabric samples, and production documentation.
• Support inventory management for fabrics, trims, and production supplies.

Team Collaboration

• Collaborate effectively with designers, tailors, cutters, and other production staff.
• Contribute creative ideas to improve designs and production efficiency.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
• Perform any other duties assigned in support of the design and production process.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Design, Textile Design, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a fashion design house, garment production company, or tailoring workshop.
• Experience assisting in garment design and production processes.
• Familiarity with garment construction, pattern interpretation, and quality assurance practices.
• Strong creativity and artistic ability.
• Excellent sketching and design visualization skills.
• Good understanding of fabrics, garment construction, and finishing techniques.
