DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct thorough inspections, servicing, and preventative maintenance of heavy plant machinery including excavators, loaders, bulldozers, graders, and related equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
  • Carry out repairs, component replacements, and system adjustments to manufacturer specifications.
  • Respond to breakdowns promptly and efficiently to minimise equipment downtime.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and accurately document all servicing and repairs completed.
  • Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and service manuals.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety regulations, company standards, and industry best practices.
  • Identify required parts, tools, and equipment necessary to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Conduct performance testing and quality inspections after repairs to ensure operational reliability.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Proven experience (typically 3–5+ years) as a Heavy Plant Mechanic or in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, braking systems, and electrical systems in heavy machinery.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical faults.
  • Relevant trade qualification or certification in Heavy Equipment Mechanics, Diesel Mechanics, or similar field.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and engineering drawings.
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Good communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
