DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Legal Advisory
- Provide legal advice to management and departments.
- Identify legal risks and recommend mitigation measures.
- Prepare legal opinions, briefs, and related documents.
Contract Drafting, Review & Management
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements.
- Identify contractual risks and recommend appropriate amendments.
- Maintain the contract register and monitor key obligations.
Legal Research & Analysis
- Conduct research on Kenyan laws, regulations, and case law.
- Prepare legal opinions, reports, and research briefs.
- Monitor legal developments affecting the organization.
Compliance & Regulatory Affairs
- Monitor compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Conduct compliance reviews and identify regulatory risks.
- Maintain compliance records and liaise with regulators.
Dispute & Litigation Management
- Manage and monitor disputes, claims, and litigation matters.
- Review legal notices, claims, pleadings, and correspondence.
- Coordinate with external advocates on legal proceedings.
Corporate & Governance Support
- Support corporate and governance-related legal matters.
- Assist with statutory filings, registrations, and regulatory obligations.
- Maintain accurate corporate and legal records.
Policy & Legal Documentation
- Draft and review policies, procedures, and legal templates.
- Maintain organized and confidential legal records.
- Ensure legal documents are properly executed and stored.
External Counsel & Stakeholder Management
- Liaise with external advocates and regulatory authorities.
- Coordinate instructions and follow up on external legal matters.
- Support legal negotiations and stakeholder engagements.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized university.
- Must have successfully completed the Kenya School of Law Advocates Training Programme (ATP).
- Admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya is an added advantage.
- A valid Practising Certificate is an added advantage.
- Current membership of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is an added advantage.
- At least 2 years of relevant post-qualification or professional experiencein a legal, corporate, commercial, compliance, or related environment.
- Practical experience in contract drafting and review, legal research and legal writing, regulatory and statutory compliance, dispute and litigation management, corporate and commercial legal matters, legal risk identification and mitigation.
