STRUCTURAL ENGINEER

JOB SUMMARY

The Structural Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and supervision of civil and structural works within the manufacturing plant and related projects. The role ensures structural integrity, safety, and efficiency in the construction and maintenance of industrial facilities, including factory buildings, warehouses, and supporting infrastructure.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Structural Design & Engineering

• Design structural systems for industrial buildings, warehouses, and related infrastructure.
• Prepare detailed structural drawings, calculations, and specifications.
• Develop designs for steel structures, reinforced concrete, and roofing support systems.
• Translate engineering concepts into accurate, construction-ready documentation.

Drafting, Modeling & Technical Delivery

• Produce detailed 2D drawings and 3D BIM models for structural and civil works.
• Prepare reinforcement detailing, steel connections, and general arrangement drawings.
• Ensure adherence to CAD/BIM standards and international engineering codes.
• Maintain proper documentation, version control, and drawing registers.

Project Planning & Implementation

• Participate in planning and execution of construction and expansion projects.
• Prepare tender documents, bills of quantities, and cost estimates.
• Monitor project timelines, budgets, and resource utilization.

Supervision of Construction Works

• Oversee construction activities to ensure compliance with approved designs.
• Conduct site inspections and provide technical guidance to contractors.
• Ensure quality control and adherence to safety standards.

Coordination & Collaboration

• Coordinate with architects, MEP teams, and contractors for integrated project delivery.
• Perform clash detection and resolve design conflicts using BIM tools.
• Support preparation of as-built drawings and documentation.

Maintenance & Continuous Improvement

• Assess structural conditions of existing facilities and recommend improvements.
• Support maintenance of factory infrastructure and roofing systems.
• Provide technical input on product development and application.

Reporting & Documentation

• Prepare and submit project progress reports and technical documentation.
• Maintain accurate records of designs, approvals, and project updates.

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, building codes, and regulatory requirements.
• Adhere to occupational health and safety policies.
• Uphold data protection and confidentiality standards.

Staff Supervision

• Supervise junior engineers, technicians, and drafting personnel.
• Provide technical mentorship and performance guidance.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

• Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution
• Registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) as a Graduate/Professional Engineer
• Knowledge of structural design principles, construction methodologies, and material properties
• Understanding of BIM processes and engineering standards
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit (Structure), and Navisworks
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
