DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lesson Planning and Subject Instruction
- Prepare structured lesson plans tailored to the learner’s academic needs, with a primary focus on Mathematics and Science.
- Deliver engaging, learner-centred lessons that simplify difficult concepts through practical examples, exercises, and revision activities.
- Review previously covered topics, identify learning gaps, and reinforce key concepts in preparation for the next academic level.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring
- Assign short exercises, homework, quizzes, and revision tasks to evaluate the learner’s understanding.
- Track academic progress, identify areas requiring additional support, and adjust teaching methods accordingly.
- Provide regular feedback to the parent or guardian on the learner’s performance, strengths, challenges, and areas for improvement.
Study Skills and Personal Development
- Teach effective time management, organization, revision techniques, and independent study habits.
- Encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, curiosity, and confidence in approaching academic challenges.
- Establish a structured learning routine that promotes discipline, concentration, consistency, and a positive attitude towards learning.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- A relevant teaching qualification, such as a P1 certificate, Diploma in Education, Bachelor of Education, or equivalent qualification, is preferred.
- Demonstrable competence in teaching upper primary Mathematics and Science.
- Previous experience tutoring or teaching primary school learners will be an added advantage.
- Familiarity with the Kenyan primary school curriculum and current learning requirements is desirable.
- Strong subject knowledge, particularly in Mathematics and Science.
- Excellent communication, lesson planning, and instructional skills.
- Patience and the ability to adapt teaching methods to the learner’s pace and learning style.
