DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Wildlife Photography & Fieldwork
- Capture high-quality photographs of wildlife, including mammals, birds, reptiles, and insects, highlighting natural behavior and habitats.
- Document significant ecological events such as the Great Migration, predator-prey interactions, or breeding seasons.
- Conduct field expeditions and remain in remote areas for extended periods to ensure optimal wildlife coverage.
Visual Storytelling & Content Creation
- Develop compelling visual stories that communicate wildlife behaviors, conservation issues, and natural landscapes.
- Collaborate with marketing, media, and conservation teams to create content for social media, websites, publications, and exhibitions.
- Maintain narrative consistency, ensuring photos align with organizational messaging and conservation ethics.
Photography Planning & Coordination
- Work closely with field guides, rangers, and conservation staff to plan photography assignments and identify ideal locations.
- Schedule shoots around animal activity patterns, migration timings, and seasonal changes.
- Scout and assess locations to maximize photographic opportunities while minimizing disturbance to wildlife.
Equipment Management & Technical Maintenance
- Operate and maintain cameras, lenses, tripods, drones, and other photography equipment in rugged outdoor conditions.
- Regularly back up and organize photos, ensuring digital assets are securely archived and easily accessible.
- Troubleshoot technical issues in the field to avoid missed opportunities.
Editing & Post-Production
- Process and edit photographs using professional software (e.g., Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop) to achieve high-quality output.
- Optimize images for print, digital, and social media platforms without compromising authenticity.
- Maintain consistent aesthetic standards and accurate representation of wildlife.
Research & Wildlife Knowledge
- Continuously expand knowledge of wildlife species, behaviors, and habitats in the Maasai Mara ecosystem.
- Understand animal behavior to anticipate movements and interactions for effective photography.
- Follow ethical guidelines to ensure wildlife safety and minimize human impact.
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate with journalists, researchers, filmmakers, and conservationists to support broader storytelling initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with the team to plan shoots, share insights, and coordinate field logistics.
- Participate in workshops, presentations, or community outreach events to showcase work and promote conservation awareness.
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain detailed records of fieldwork, wildlife sightings, and photographic assignments.
- Provide visual reports and content summaries for management, publications, or conservation programs.
- Contribute to data collection or citizen-science initiatives when required.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Diploma or Degree in Photography, Journalism, Media Studies, or a related field.
- Proven experience in wildlife or nature photography.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating wildlife photography skills.
- Basic knowledge of wildlife behavior and safari environments.
- Ability to work outdoors for long hours in varying weather conditions.
- Proficiency in photo editing software such as Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
- Strong storytelling, composition, and technical photography skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with field teams.
